Jake and Dinos Chapman are among the most significant and best-known contemporary British artists working today. The Chapman brothers' cynical humour is a hallmark of their work. They drew critics’ attention in 1991 by affixing grotesque heads to the already existing figures in Francisco de Goya's series of prints The Disasters of War. Together they have created an exceptional body of work which draws from all areas of culture including art history, philosophy, artificial intelligence and cybernetic theory. For HENZEL STUDIO, the Chapman brothers re-appropriated a drawing from their series 'Like a Dog Returns to its Vomit Twice'. The series features 80 prints by Francisco de Goya "reworked and improved" by Jake and Dinos Chapman. Molluscs, insects, animals, clowns, organs and monsters painted directly on the original prints in gouache and ink populate the famous Spanish master’s whimsical, macabre world. This work is part of the "rectification" series the Chapman brothers initiated in 2003, which returned to Goya’s Disasters of War series.
