Art Edition (No. 1–1,000), with the print Gurls! Sex! signed by Robert Crumb

“Underground cartoonist Robert Crumb’s X-rated œuvre has been catalogued before, but never by his own hand… fans of caustic humor, alienation, and luxurious pubic hair rejoice.”
V Magazine
“One of the most impressive sketchbook collections you are likely to ever see.”
Complex.com
“That great purveyor of very beautiful (and very voluminous) art books, TASCHEN, has set the bar very high with its publication today of a boxed set of six volumes of sketches by Robert Crumb, a leading figure in underground US comix in the 1960s… This limited edition accompanied by a signed print is closer to a work of art (investment) than to an art-book, and despite its hefty price-tag, it is hard to imagine that the one thousand copies printed will be on the market for very long.”
Marevueweb.com
“The underground comic artist and gifted dirty old man handpicks his finest unsavory doodles.”
The Huffington Post

Edition of 1,000Hardcover in slipcase with signed print “Gurls! Sex!” in portfolio, 20.5 x 27 cm, 1,344 pages

Underground Treasures

The early years – from The Yum Yum Book to Snatch, Zap, and Despair and Weirdo

This six-book boxed set is based on the original seven-volume series released by the German publisher Zweitausendeins between 1981 and 1997. Unlike this previous edition, which included every doodle ever made by the preeminent underground artist, our edition has been personally curated by the notoriously fastidious artist to include only what he considers his best work, reproduced directly from the original sketchbooks. This slip-cased set is made with loving attention to detail in a size and format selected by the artist. Each book in the set contains 224 pages, for a total of 1,344 pages of prime Crumb from the artist’s most prolific, early period. The set includes a handwritten introduction, many pages of original color works, and 50 redrawn images distinctly different from the original works. Each set in this 1,000-copy limited edition also includes a signed, authenticated color art print of a collectible Crumb original.

With Robert Crumb’s original art setting records at auction (the cover art for Mr. Natural #1 sold for $ 101,575 at Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries in 2007), this limited edition with signed print is sure to increase in value and be sought both as an investment by collectors and as a stunning addition to any Crumb fan’s library.
